Kling 4.0 went live on Kling’s website on 16 October: one prompt can now return a 30-second take, steered by up to 15 references and 10 keyframes. The API, HDR output, 21:9 and the Adobe Firefly version are all still “coming soon”, and the release names no price. The other two stories this week are about what surrounds AI work — a disclosure gap in U.S. political ads, and a cheap voice model with no language list.
Kling 4.0: a 30-second take, steered frame by frame
Kling AI said on 16 October that Kling 4.0 is “fully available now” on its website (Kling AI release, 16 Oct). It generates 30 seconds natively, can extend an uploaded video to two minutes, and takes up to 15 references — images, video and audio — plus up to 10 keyframes, with prompts up to 8,000 tokens. API access for enterprises and developers, 10-bit HDR at 4K and 1080p, and a 21:9 format are listed as coming soon. Adobe says Kling 4.0 and Kling 4.0 Flash are “coming soon to Firefly”. The languages named are English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French and Hindi. No credit price is published.
My read: I built every sequence of the Shirin Asal Christmas greeting with Kling, in short shots. Thirty seconds in one take changes the arithmetic, not just the length. I throw away 60–70% of the takes I generate. A rejected five-second shot is cheap; a rejected thirty-second take burns far more credits and waiting time. So the keyframes are the real news. Pin the pack shot, the hero bite and the end frame, and let the model fill the path between them. Use the long take for one continuous move — a pour, a walk through a set. Keep product films in short shots until you see the credit price.
Only 27% of AI political ads carried a disclaimer
The Wesleyan Media Project reported on 15 October that it has identified 220 AI-generated ads in the U.S. midterm cycle, with over $137 million in spending across 34 states — against under $50,000 in the whole 2024 cycle. 27% carried a disclaimer. The count covers ads with a disclaimer, ads reported by the press or AdImpact, and ads its staff flagged and confirmed, and the authors call it likely an undercount (Wesleyan Media Project, 15 Oct). Co-director Erika Franklin Fowler: “Much of the AI use is not disclosed through any type of disclaimer.”
My read: These are political ads, not FMCG. The habit still spreads. When undisclosed AI work runs at that scale, platforms and lawmakers write the rules, and brands inherit them. A brand team can get ahead with one line in the brief: if a person, a place or a product shot in the frame is generated, the client knows it in writing before it airs, and the post carries the platform’s AI label where one exists. It costs nothing. Finding out in the comments costs the launch.
Grok Voice 3.0: a voice agent at $4.80 an hour
xAI released Grok Voice 3.0 on 14 October, a speech-to-speech model in its Voice Agent API, with latency “under one second” and the same price as version 2.0: $0.08 a minute, $4.80 an hour (xAI, 14 Oct). xAI says it handles Starlink calls “across multiple languages”, but the page does not say which, and says nothing about custom voices.
My read: This is a phone line, not a voiceover. A film voice is directed line by line and cut to picture; a live agent improvises, and the brand loses the script. Where it fits is a promo hotline or an order line with tight rules and a human behind it. At $4.80 an hour the price is not the risk. The language is. Test it in the dialect your customers actually speak before anyone promises it in a brief.
What I’d do today
Spend a small test budget in Kling 4.0 on one 30-second move with three keyframes — pack, hero, end frame — before rewriting any shot list. Count the rejects. That number, not the launch reel, tells you whether long takes fit your budget. Want the pipeline built for your brand? This is how I work.
